Gravity of nutrition in liver disease
What makes Nutrition one of the most important aspects of liver care?
“We are what we eat” is a well-known fact. The gut is responsible for the absorption, but the food's final product is only delivered by the liver. The type of food we consume definitely has an impact on other organs, but they are not directly involved in their metabolism. They receive the finished product of the Liver. What if we had seeds, manure, and soil but no farmer to manage the farm and harvest the crop? The net outcome would be nil. Similarly, the Liver is the master metabolizer hub of our body, where each and every unit of our meal including carbs, protein, fat, minerals, and vitamins is metabolized.
In addition, junk food, heavy medicines (allopathic and ayurvedic), and toxins (alcohol, nicotine) are all directed to the liver for detoxification. And this detoxification overburdens the liver, preventing it from performing its primary function of metabolism of food and its constituents.
Because the liver has special regenerative qualities, it regenerates itself after each injury; therefore our bodies may or may not show early signs of liver disease. Symptoms appear once the threshold is crossed, which may be quite late. And the appropriate nutrition keeps supporting the Liver to rejuvenate, detoxify and function properly.
Nourish right, and keep loving your liver.
